Forecast is a VR experience that lets users summon weather through simple, ritual-like interactions. Designed as a calm escape from Los Angeles’ climate monotony, it blends sensory variation, atmospheric transitions, and meditative pacing.
Los Angeles experiences 284 days of sunshine per year, creating a sense of climate sameness. In dense urban environments, people often feel disconnected from nature’s cycles, sensory variation, and seasonal rhythms. So how can VR recreate the emotional grounding that seasons bring?
In overbuilt cities like LA, where weather rarely changes, life can feel flat and disconnected from nature. This project creates a virtual escape—a lush green world with a sacred temple at the center—where users summon rain, snow, or storms to reconnect with lost sensations and find a moment of calm.
Built over six weeks: we first tested the core idea using simple weather icons and a placeholder altar, then developed the final prototype with a sky-temple environment, atmospheric transitions, and clean grab-and-place interactions.
